There’s no way around it — the world is craving your alchemy!

Welcome to a vibrant, empowering and supportive female driven DJ community!

Femme Frequencies is more than just a community - it's a movement.
We are a collective of female DJs united by our passion for music.

And let’s be honest; DJing can be a lonesome journey, but it doesn’t have to!

Femme Frequencies is founded by Mathilde Alba as a product of her own longing of a supportive collective to safely lean into when she started out in the summer of 2023. A place where she had to show up consistently and commit herself to practise and also share knowledge and network with other female DJs in a male dominated field.

So here we are: Femme Frequencies is born!
With the vision of creating that vibrant, supportive, inspiring, non-judgemental space full of likeminded women sharing talents, learning, playing and growing together.

— You can take part in either The DJ Beginner Workshops or The 4 week DJ Beginner Course which is for you who’s ready to commit to showing up for yourself and your longing to become a DJ since we are serious in supporting and building you from being a beginner to your first gig. This course requires that you have your own equipment.

Don’t worry if you don’t feel like a technical genius. That you can learn.

DJing is much more than just pressing buttons. It’s music - it has to be felt through the body first of all

The Team

  • Founder & Main Instructor

I have always known that music wanted to be felt through me as a dancer but I was longing to also play music myself. I tried and since I didn't have the patience to play an actual instrument I gave up on that idea.

Through my journey as a dancer I discovered Conscious Dance & Ecstatic Dance and it honestly opened a portal of expansion not only in my movement language but I transformed as well. And I was sold. I wanted to create journeys like that! And so I fell in love with the idea of becoming a DJ... I had no DJs in my network so I google "how to DJ" and my youtube study began. But lets be honest it was frustrating and difficult so I went to a Future Female Sound DJ workshop and it ignited my spirit. And became hungry for more so I signed up for Pete Tong Academy and somehow I began to attract DJs into my life and was learning by observing and playing back2back with them. My network became curious after I hung out with Sound Sister and played in Marokko and they were requesting to learn as well. I felt brave and invited 5 women into my first DJ beginner workshop. That workshop resolved in a job offer as the daily manager of DJ Academy Cph where I created courses for beginners and more advanced DJ's in collaboration with Rasmus LĂŒtzen & Simon Hede and ran the Female Only Community. I as well completed the Advanced Course myself with Johnny "Pusk" and I gain a lot of wisdom by sharing talents with other DJs. Our ways separated in spring 2024 and you know how it is "when a door closes a new opens" and now we're here! Femme Frequencies is birthed with amazing women on board carefully curated to support you embark on this remarkable journey yourself.

I’ve taught more than 50 women in my DJ beginners workshop both teaching for DJ Academy, Pioneer & inside FEM FREQ.

    Welcome on board sister!

  • Assistant

Ditte Klarskov was a student only 1 year ago when she joined The Practice Lab in FEM FREQ in late 2024. Since she’s played stages like: House of Play, Secret Garden, Culture Box, Borderland, The Maze Sessions over the past year.

She’s a pure and raw talent with a deep passion for the shadowy side of electronic music, she crafts immersive journeys anchored around 130 BPM. Her sets are a hypnotic fusion of brooding atmospheres, driving basslines and eerie, shifting soundscapes that pull listeners into a realm where light fades and instinct takes over.

What motivated you to want to become a DJ?

Honestly! I needed a hobby. My daughter has grown up, and I suddenly had a lot more time for myself. I was a bit tired of spending too much time at home in front of the TV. I wanted to go out and be around people preferably the more festive kind.
Basically, I was missing a hobby I could share with others.
I also like that it’s creative; that’s something I’ve been missing in my life. So now I’m happy. I’ve listened to techno since I was very young, and suddenly it just became clear that this was what I was meant to do.

How has learning DJ’ing in a female community influenced the way you play, express yourself, and navigate the industry?

I think it was really nice that we didn’t approach it in a super technical way. Of course, that’s important too, but there was a huge focus on feeling your own taste in music, expressing it, and enjoying it. There was no competition or fault-finding culture—it was just caring and insanely fun. That energy is something I’ve carried with me going forward. I don’t know what it’s like to learn in a masculine environment, but I have an idea that they might be a bit more technically focused 😆

You’ve played big gigs since finishing the 4-week FEM FREQ course - what are three key things that gave you the confidence to step forward?

Being very aware of my own taste in music. It gives you a strong sense of what you can contribute to the party.
More concretely, it was a huge help that a gig was arranged after the course, so you could try it out in real life.

I experienced that it’s completely okay to stick to the basics, even when you step onto bigger stages. You don’t need to master a ton of special techniques and effects to play gigs.

The community. You meet a lot of sweet and fun DJs. Having people to play with, practice with, and ask loads of questions as you develop your skills.
It’s also fun that there are witnesses—people who follow you from being a complete novice to when you start to really get the hang of it.

What would you say to the woman who is standing where you were before you signed up for FEM FREQ?

If you have a dream of becoming a DJ, you’re giving yourself a great starting point by signing up for FEM FREQ’s 4-week course. It’s a really great learning environment ❀ I have a lot of respect for the people behind this project. I think you get a lot for your money.
